Our Teachers are the Backbone of Prep Academy

Teachers are the backbone of PREP academy and are as special and unique as our students. Everyone here has a little bit of a rebel spirit! We come from very different walks of life and varying levels of power and privilege. But, what unites is the understanding that the typical educational experience doesn’t work and our focus on trying to dismantle it. At the end of the day, everything we do comes from a place of love for our students and passion for the work.

Prep teachers are:

  • Reflective and culturally responsive. They have a strong enough sense of who they are and how they walk in the world. They draw on these qualities to help students grow and navigate towards their future.

  • A facilitator more than a deliverer of content. They embrace personalized and progressive learning practices.

  • Socially and emotionally competent. When hiring teachers, we prioritize competencies like self-regulation, responsibility, self-management, and a strong sense of identity. We encourage our teachers to practice self-care so they can bring their best to the students each day.
  • Love. Above all, Prep teachers love the kids more than they love the content.
